Why the Collaboration?

After the launch of Android everyone expected to see it running on Nokia. But Nokia had other plans it went with Microsoft’s Windows operating system. Soon Nokia saw considerable loss in sales and once kingpin in the mobile market was nowhere to see in the game. Nokia tried hard to clam its position by launching Windows OS for phone. But the fact that it was just the gimmick of the Windows 8 OS for computer. It received mixed response around the world. Also other companies making their smartphones cheaper and cheaper everyday Nokia lost its most of the market share.

Microsoft acquired Nokia for $7.7 billion. In a much desperate attempt to keep the company alive, Microsoft kept all their rivalry aside and decided to join Android brand of their arch nemesis Google. Android smartphones occupy about 90% of the market shares in emerging countries. Company is trying to cash some profit for itself.

Microsoft has used free version of Android OS that does not require any permission from Google. But they can’t provide services that require Google’s permission like Youtube, Google Play Store, Gmail.  Nokia has replaced these services with their own like Here Maps replaces Google Maps and Microsoft cloud replacing Google cloud. This is the major letdown when considering the popularity of Google services. Time alone will only tell if people will like the new Android phones launched by Nokia or is it already too late.
